It was a drastic change in her life when Erla Edvardsdottir ended up at Nowaste.
– I worked as a skin therapist when we lived in Iceland. Six years ago, we decided to change things up. A different country, different language, different things. We brought our children, aged 8 and 3 at the time. We aimed for Lund but we ended up in Helsingborg. I was first educated in app development, then web development.
I had no experience in this field and had never coded anything before. Nowaste was my first job after completing my education. It’s been two years since then and a lot has happened. When I started, we had just begun working in sprints, something that we have really improved in during the last few years. Back then we were six developers and now we are 13. At the time, we didn’t even have an application team, which of course we do have now. The job can be demanding and stressful at times, as it is in an expanding and growing company. But it’s always fun. You learn something new all the time and never work on the same aspect of the project for long and it’s very open to new ways, thoughts, and solutions. It can be a bit special to be a woman in a male-dominated industry. I ask a lot, want to understand, and want a lot of structure. But the guys appreciate it. Then they don’t have to sit and think that they have to know everything themselves right away, haha! Instead, we have a dialogue, a very good cohesion.
